Future Forum for Dementia

Merz initiated the Dementia Future Forum to improve care for persons suffering from dementia in Germany to enable them to live a dignified and relatively fulfilled life for as long as possible. The motto of the Forum is “For a tomorrow worth living.”

Why is the initiative necessary for the improvement of care opportunities?

Dementia patients today are frequently poorly served or underserved. Less than twenty percent of patients actually receive adequate pharmaceutical treatment. Furthermore, the quality of care provided by families or in nursing homes is generally not adapted to the needs and remaining capabilities of the patients. This situation is likely to worsen in the future, as demographic developments indicate that a growing number of dementia patients will be requiring care while personal and financial means are steadily decreasing.
