Liver Disease

A frequent complication in chronic liver diseases is hepatic encephalopathy (HE). It begins with unspecific symptoms such as tiredness and concentration problems and can intensify and lead to disorientation or even hepatic coma. According to estimates, hepatic encephalopathy is diagnosed in less than 10% of all cases. Even in the early stages of the disease, HE has an impact on the quality of life. It is important that HE is diagnosed and treated early on.

Merz Pharmaceuticals developed the substance L-ornithine L-aspartate, which relieves the symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy and is today regarded as the standard therapy for this disease.
