Merz Pharmaceuticals GmbH acquires presence in United Kingdom with the takeover of Denfleet Pharma Ltd.
Frankfurt am Main, 09.06.2006
Merz Pharmaceuticals GmbH, Frankfurt am Main, has announced today the purchase of Denfleet Pharma Ltd., a UK based, privately owned pharmaceutical company. Merz intends to utilise Denfleet's expertise and strong hospital presence, particularly in the CNS area, to create a launch pad for future activities in the UK. This acquisition forms part of a Europe wide strategy for expansion.
"With its established products and out-performing sales organization, Denfleet Pharma perfectly complements Merz Pharmaceuticals' strategic corporate focus in the CNS area. It will also provide a basis for future product launches in the promising UK market," comments Dr. Martin Zügel, CEO of Merz Pharmaceuticals, on the acquisition.
"This represents another major step in expanding our European presence following the establishment of our subsidiary in Italy last year," said Dr. Jochen Huckmann, Chairman of the Board of Merz.
"Merz is an innovative and forward looking company with an exciting product pipeline and I am delighted with this development. The partnership provides a platform to grow the business in the UK and enhance our contribution to the provision of improved patient healthcare," stated Dr Henry Arnold, founder of Denfleet Pharma Ltd.
