Dr. Alexander Gebauer has assumed responsibility for Global R & D Pharmaceuticals effective July 1, 2006. Gebauer succeeds Dr. Hans Jörg Möbius, who will be leaving the Merz Group and his position as Managing Director of Merz Pharmaceuticals GmbH.
Alexander Gebauer, MD, has many years of experience in the industry. Before joining Merz in 2005, he held various management positions in preclinical and clinical research at Sanofi-Aventis and its predecessor companies.
“Alexander Gebauer is an exceptionally qualified person for the position,” said Dr. Martin Zügel, CEO of Merz Pharmaceuticals GmbH. “His experience in the expansion of successful product pipelines in particular will be of tremendous benefit to us. Focused research and development are one of the highest priorities at Merz, today and in the future.”
Dr. Hans Jörg Möbius, who will be leaving Merz after more than ten years, will continue to assist the company in an advisory capacity. The Research & Development department was systematically expanded under his management. He successfully promoted a number of projects and processes, most recently the worldwide approval of memantine (Axura®) and the approval of von Xeomin in Germany.
