Dr. Martin Zügel, member of the Merz Management Board responsible as CEO of Merz Pharmaceuticals for research, development and sales of pharmaceutical products, is to head the Management Board as its Chairman. Dr. Matthias Vogt, who will be joining the Merz Group as Chief Financial Officer on 2 July 2008, is a new member of the Management Board.
Dr. Martin Zügel, CEO of the company with the highest sales of the Merz Group, Merz Pharmaceuticals GmbH, was appointed Chairman of the Management Board. He joined Merz in April 2005 as a member of the Management Board and Head of Merz Pharmaceuticals GmbH. "Dr. Martin Zügel has served Merz exceptionally well. Research and development activities were expanded under his leadership, the internationalization of the pharmaceutical line of business forged ahead with the Group's own subsidiaries towards positioning the company well to master the challenges of the future," says Dr. Jochen Hückmann, Chairman of the Shareholders´Council.
On 2 July 2008 Dr. Matthias Vogt will be taking up the position of CFO within the Merz Group. Dr. Vogt has degrees in Business Management and Industrial Engineering. In his professional career he filled various international management posts for Novartis and was most recently CFO for their global OTC line of business.
"We are delighted that with Dr. Matthias Vogt, we have gained someone who is highly qualified to promote the international business conducted by our company," Dr. Jochen Hückmann explains.
Armin von Buttlar, who joined the Merz Group as CFO on 1 March 2006, has decided to leave the company to concentrate on new tasks. He will be leaving the Merz Group on 30 June. Armin von Buttlar notably made a great contribution towards establishing a modern, revealing financial and controlling system which was launched at group level in accordance with international standards. He was instrumental in successfully supervising major acquisition and financial transactions and made significant contributions towards long-term planning in the company. "We regret that Mr von Buttlar is leaving the company and wish him all the best for the future," said Dr. Jochen Hückmann.
Medicinal products for treating neurological any psychological illnesses are the main line of Merz business. The company is a leader in the area of Alzheimer research.
